I’ve lived in Greenwich Village since 1967, at 15 Charles Street (1967 - 1972), 173 Christopher Street (1972 – 1981) and 830 Broadway (1981 – Present). Living downtown has shaped the content of my New York City photographs only insofar as more of them have been taken downtown than uptown. Other than the Cancer Eyes project, which was a carefully planned project that produced hundreds of images and photographing various activities in Union Square, these are simply random photographs of people, places and things I’ve found interesting over the years. Berenice Abbott always told me I had to have a project. These are a few of the photographs that fall outside her stern admonition.
