Highgate Cemetery

I never had as much time as I wanted or needed at Highgate Cemetery, a wonderfully extravagant gothic cemetery that harkens back to the Victorian era and all the excesses of that time. The western portion, closed to the public, is filled with crumbling monuments, tangled undergrowth and probably dangerous places where a false step might lead to falling into a place you’d rather not be. I’ve toured this section with groups and hired a private guide to keep me from falling in a hole, and all the while took photographs of the ruins from another era that make up Highgate.
